The breed is one of the oldest German rough-coated pointing dogs. Though one of the oldest German rough-coated pointing dogs, the Stichelhaar was first developed in the 1800s as a gun dog. The small yet heavy breed stands 22 to 26 inches tall and weighs an average of 44 pounds. The Stichelhaar is very calm and even tempered, they love to be around their families.
