Podenco Canario

Average: 3.5 (2 votes)

The exact origin of the breed is not entirely known, but it is thought that the breed descended from ancient dogs from North Africa and Egypt that were brought to the Canary Islands during the first human settlement. Rabbits are serious pests on the Canary Islands, so the Podenco Canario are readily used to hunt the rabbit population, sadly the hunters usually treat their dogs horribly; keeping many in a small cage, not spaying the females, and abandoning or killing dogs and puppies after season. The Podenco Canario is slender and lightly built, the breed stands 21 to 25 inches tall and the weight is in accordance to the height. The high-key hunting dog is known to be aggressive.
