Kai Ken
The breed is thought to be the most ancient and purest bred dogs hailing from Japan where it was developed in the isolated district of Kai. It was used primarily as a hunting dog for deer and wild boar. The rare medium-sized Kai Ken stands 18 to 22 inches at the shoulder and weighs 30 to 40 pounds. The breed does well with children and another animals when properly socialized, but are reserved around strangers, and are very loyal to their families.
