Hawaiian Poi Dog
The breed first came to the Hawaiian Islands during the Polynesian settlement over 1000 years ago where the Hawaiian Poi Dog was a highly prized companion and protector, but also a regular meal for the tribes. The breed was so over fed and lazy that their looks changed due to inactivity and later interbreeding caused the extinction of the pure-blood Hawaiian Poi Dog. The clumsy yet friendly breed stood at an average of 14 inches and they were often overweight with distended bellies as the result of overeating. A revival of the breed has been attempted for 12+ years but no advancements have been made.
