Black Norwegian Elkhound
The Black Norwegian Elkhound originated in Scandinavia and is considered one of the most ancient breeds, as it has been around since the Stone Age where they worked as hunting and guard dogs. Many qualities make the breed unique such as being able to smell game a mile away and hunting better in the night time. The medium-sized Spitz-type breed stands at 18 to 21 inches tall and weighs 40 to 60 pounds. Though independent, the Black Norwegian Elkhound shows great affection towards its family and is happy as long as housed in a cool climate.
